How the Test Works
When a woman becomes pregnant, her body produces a hormone called hCG (human Chorionic Gonadotrphn). This hormone appears in the urine shortly after fertilization takes place. The secretion of the hCG hormne increases steadily throughout the first trimester. The Aim MidStream Professional OTC Pregnancy Test is highly sensitive (25 mIU/ml hCG) rapid one-step test for the determination of hCG in human urine. Given the sensitivity of the Aim MidStream Professional OTC Pregnancy Test, pregnancy can be determined well before the first day of a woman's missed period. Testing at 9 or 10 days past ovulation is probably the best time to use these tests to help lower the chances of a false negative.
Before You Begin
- Read the full instructions. You must follow the instructions carefully to insure the correct performance of the test. The Aim MidStream Professional OTC Pregnancy Test incorporates sophisticated chemical technologies despite it's simple appearance.
- Do not open the sealed pouch until you are ready to start the test.
- Do not use the test after the expiration date stamped on the package.
- Store unopened tests at room temperature (below 86 degrees F) Do not freeze.
- The Aim MidStream Professional OTC Pregnancy Test can be
used any time of day, but the first morning urine usually contains the
highest concentration of hCG hormone.
- Reduce or eliminate your fluid intake at least two (2) hours prior to testing to prevent sample dilution.
Instructions
- Remove the MidStream OTC hCG Test device from the foil pouch.
- Remove green cap to completely expose the absorbent wick.
- Turn the Test Stick over so that the Result Windows are facing away from you to prevent splashing onto these sensitive areas.
- Hold the wick portion of the test device in a direct urine stream for at least five to six
seconds so that an adequate sample goes into the absorbent wick.
- Put the green cap back on so the absorbent wick is fully covered.
- Lay the Aim MidStream Professional OTC Pregnancy Test on a flat surface with the Result
Windows facing up.
- Observe the gradual migration of the test sample across the result windows. If migration does not start, you need to expose the wick to additional urine.
Interpretation of the Test
- Interpret test result at 2-3 minutes. Do not interpret results after five (5) minutes.
- As the test kit begins to develop, a color band will
always appear in the Triangular Window to show that the test is working
property. This band is the Control Band.
- The Circular Test Window indicates the test results. If another color band appears in the Circular Test Window similar in appearance to the Control Band the result is a positive test for hCG hormone and pregnancy is indicated.
Positive Result: The
presence of color bands in both the Circular Test and Triangular
Control Windows, no matter which one appears first, means that you are
likely to be pregnant.
Invalid Result: If a color
band does not appear in the Triangular Control Window, then the test
has not been performed correctly or the Test Device has become
contaminated. Important:
A positive result band will always be a darker color than the
background of the Test Winow. Sometimes one band is darker than the
other. Even if one band is very light purple, the result is positive. The test band must be a clear and distinct line,
however, and not a blotch, shadow or unlikely evaporation line. If you
are uncertain, retest in 24 hours with a new test device.
Negative Result: The presence of only one purple color band
(Control Band) within the Triangular Control Window indicates that you
are not likely to be pregnant and the test has been performed
correctly.
Test Limitations
- The MidStream OTC Pregnancy
Test is not reusable and must be discarded after use. Use caution in
disposal of medical waste material.
- The test works only if the instructions are followed precisely. Be Patient!
- Although the MidStream OTC test is highly accurate in
detecting pregnancy, a low incidence of false results (positive when no
pregnancy exists or negative when pregnancy is present) can occur.
- Check with your doctor if you get unexpected or inconsistent test results.
- Oral contraceptives, painkillers, antibiotics and other common drugs do not affect the results of this test.
Questions & Answers
Q: If I see two distinct and clear bands appear, but one band is darker than the other, am I pregnant?
A: Yes. This should be interpreted as a positive result.
Q: Can the result change after standing for a certain length of time?
A: A positive result will not change after the test is completed at 3 minutes. However, in order to prevent any incorrect results, the test result should not be interpreted after 5 minutes.
Q: If the test result is positive, what do I do?
A: If the test result is positive, you should see your doctor to confirm your pregnancy. The earlier you see your doctor, the better it is for your health.
Q: If the test result is negative, what do I do?
A: A negative result means that no pregnancy hormones have been detected and you are probably not pregnant. If your period does not start within a week, you may have miscalculated the day your period was due. Repeat the test. If the second test is still negative, and you still have not menstruated, you should see your doctor for further advice.
Q: Can I collect urine in a cup instead of holding the stick in my urine stream?
A: Yes. Immerse the absorbent pad in the urine for at least 10 seconds and then wait 3 minutes before you read the results.
Q: I see a very faint line, or what looks like a line in the test area. Is this a positive result?
A: Many women seeking pregnancy want very much to see a line in the test area. Blotches, shadows, or evaporation marks are not a positive result. If you are pregnant, the test line will be distinct and obvious. If the line is very faint and you are not sure, you should test again in 36-48 hours as the line will darken as greater concentrations of hCG hormone are produced by the body after impregnation.
Q: Can I get a false or misleading result?
A: This should not happen if you follow the instructions correctly. However, if you get the absorbent material wet before using the test, then you may not get a reliable result. Certain rare medical conditions can also cause a false result. If you repeatedly get unexpected results, you should check with your doctor.
Q: I did the test and left in on the sink while I made breakfast. After about 10 minutes I see a line in the test area...Am I Pregnant?
A: No...Results should never be interpreted after 5 minutes. The reason is a technical one having to do with the chemical properties of the test. If you are pregnant the test line will appear in about 3 minutes.
